Nestled in the heart of Emporia, Kansas, Gravel City Roasters is a truly inviting coffee shop that offers more than just your average cup of joe. This charming, cozy spot on Commercial Street stands out with its thoughtful variety of craft coffee drinks and freshly baked goods, making it a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike.
Step inside and you’re greeted not only by the rich aroma of expertly roasted coffee but also by an atmosphere that feels warm and genuine. The baristas' attention to detail shines through in every drink, from the silky smooth Australian flat white—an option that reflects their dedication to a personalized coffee experience—to the refreshing Love Potion Boba and the indulgent Peanut Butter FRAP Cold Brew Nitro refill. The menu is a delightful blend of classic favorites and creative twists, including iced oat milk lattes that are creamy yet light, frozen mochas studded with chocolate chips, and invigorating nitro cold brews that awaken your senses with a velvety texture and bold flavor.
But what truly elevates Gravel City Roasters beyond a simple coffee stop is their incredible homemade bakery selection. Picture flaky croissant sandwiches, buttery cinnamon rolls, and decadently chocolatey puff pastries that melt in your mouth. Their breakfast sandwiches, particularly the pancake variety, are a cozy hug on a plate—heartwarming and satisfying in every bite. Avocado toast enthusiasts and salad seekers will also find thoughtfully prepared, nutritious options that blend fresh ingredients with a hearty flair.
Customers consistently praise the exceptional hospitality here. Kristin Henry lauded the staff’s friendliness and the remarkable service, noting how they even asked her preference between Australian, New Zealand, or American-style flat whites—an uncommon and thoughtful touch that speaks to their dedication. Another visitor, Ava Wasylk, highlighted the café as a perfect spot not only for coffee but also a serene place to study or simply unwind. For artists and art lovers, the adjoining gallery adds an enriching cultural layer to the experience, showcasing local artistry and making every visit feel like a mini cultural excursion, as Erin Pittenger fondly described.
Gravel City Roasters isn’t just a coffee shop; it’s a cozy community hub pulsing with creativity, comfort, and craftsmanship. Whether you’re savoring a rich cold brew to-go, indulging in a luscious breakfast sandwich, or appreciating local art alongside your latte, this Emporia gem delivers an experience that feels both special and sincerely welcoming. A stop here leaves you with not only a perfectly brewed beverage but also a memorable sense of connection and care.
Super cute, cozy coffee shop with wonderful customer service! They also have homemade baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. The flat white is amazing! I was even asked if I wanted Australian, New Zealand or American flat white - I personally prefer Australian so thank you for the option! The pancake breakfast sandwiches are my favorite!

Gravel City Roasters and the adjoining Gallery are a “must go” for me when I visit Emporia, Kansas. Every time I visit, I leave having had THE BEST coffee drink and pastry, delivered with exceptional hospitality. I haven’t tried their salads yet; but they look SO nutritious and yummy. After enjoying the cafe, I always enjoy the art exhibit and partake in some local artist shopping. Great works that either inspire my own art making or making a purchase.
Awesome place! Really loved my vanilla raspberry matcha.
What a fun and funky little shop!! I loved getting to look through all the art and their cold brew, croissant sandwich, and chocolate puff pastry were fantastic!! The staff was very nice too :) Will definitely stop by next time I’m in Emporia!
Come for an amazing coffee stay for the art. If you haven't been you won't know and once you've been you will know. I try to stop here at least once while we're in town. Always something new.
Superb local coffee and art store. Super bummed I was running behind and only got to grab a quick perusal and some treats - definitely on my list for exploring on my next visit. Looked to be a cool place to hang out- the cookies, roll and tea were fantastic as was the friendly service!
